Police Name Vice Rector of University as Suspect in Student Abuse
Bengkulu - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Bengkulu City Police (Polresta) has named the Vice Rector III of a private university in Bengkulu, Dehasen University (Unived), with the initials YA (37), as a suspect in the alleged case of abuse of students.
"The process continues to ensure legal certainty and at this time the report has been designated as a suspect," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Bengkulu Police, AKP Frengki Sirait, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 4.
He ensured that the legal process against the suspect would continue to provide legal certainty for all parties.
According to him, the suspect was charged with Article 471 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding the alleged crime of persecution.
Previously, the victim Aldian Firzon who was a student at the campus admitted to being a victim of beating in the Bengkulu University environment on Tuesday (25/2) evening.
The incident began when the victim and a number of his colleagues gathered at the canteen in front of the campus mosque, not far from the Faculty of Health, at around 20.15 WIB.
Furthermore, at around 20.55 WIB, the victim received information that the counting process of the student election (Pemira) had been completed. The victim and other students then went to the campus hall.
In this situation, it is suspected that there was an incident of persecution involving the suspect against the victim. Due to this incident, the victim reported the incident to the police for legal processing.
