PDIP Questions Yusril's Proposal on the Threshold of Parliament
JAKARTA - The Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto responded to the proposal of the Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra regarding the parliamentary threshold for each political party to get a minimum of 13 seats according to the number of commissions in the DPR.
Hasto said PDIP had dialoged with all parties and small parties, so that there was no pressure from the authorities in the democratic process.
"If we talk about numbers, every party has interests," said Hasto at the Otista GOR, Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, Sunday, May 3.
Hasto reminded the beginning of democratization in the era of President Soeharto, so that the system of general elections (Pemilu) was born. At the beginning of the election period, there were at least 48 political parties.
Along with public awareness, the presidential system requires effectiveness in the government's course. Therefore, the threshold parliamentary system emerged as an electoral democracy system based on people's decisions.
"The people determine which parties are entitled to send representatives to parliament. That is the meaning of the parliamentary threshold, which is then carried out in stages," added Hasto.
Hasto said PDIP had held dialogues with all parties, including non-parliamentary parties. As a party that has been chosen by the people. They have a vision and mission according to the will of the constitution.
"This is what PDIP will then pay attention to so that it will later lead to a picture that can be agreed upon together,"
Hasto reminded the government to be arrogant in taking over the rights of the people. Therefore, there should be no monopoly practices in power.
"Let the people decide and every political party also needs to improve to provide the best performance among the people," he concluded.
