Minister of Trade Reveals Fantastic Value of the Poultry Industry Reaches Rp2 Trillion
JAKARTA - The boom in the hobby of singing birds in Indonesia is now not just an activity of the community, but has developed into a promising economic sector.
The proliferation of cockfighting competitions in various regions has also contributed to the growth of downstream businesses involving many actors, from upstream to downstream.
Budi Santoso as the Minister of Trade revealed that the economic value of the bird-singing ecosystem in Indonesia reaches a significant figure.
In an event in Jakarta, he stated, "If the competition for chirping birds is increasing, then the impact will also be greater. If we look at the economic value behind the chirping of birds, it is around Rp. 1.7 to Rp. 2 trillion. Our export of ornamental birds last year was around Rp. 12.5 billion," he said, as quoted by ANTARA.
According to him, the development of the cockfighting competition not only has an impact on fans, but also opens up business opportunities in various sectors.
"Because this is a livestock bird, so more and more farmers, more and more breeding, then more and more bird cage makers, more and more feed factories, more and more cricket farmers, because crickets are one of the birds' food, then of course the seller, the seller will be more and more."
Furthermore, he emphasized that this activity also has positive value in terms of environmental preservation. The birds that are auctioned come from captivity, not from the wild. He added, "I want to introduce to all of us, how we love the environment, how we preserve the birds that sing, and we are not the wild birds that are auctioned, so the livestock birds."
The government, he continued, will continue to support the organization of the cockfighting competition so that it will continue to develop and provide wider economic impact in the future.
