Reflection of National Education Day 2026: FSGI Demands Educational Justice and Ending Bullying Emergency
JAKARTA - The commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026 is a crucial momentum for the Indonesian education world. The Indonesian Teachers' Union Federation (FSGI) issued a sharp reflection on the direction of national education policy which was considered to still leave a large inequality and systemic challenges.
The FSGI chairman emphasized that the theme of Hardiknas 2026, "Strengthening Universal Participation to Achieve Quality Education for All", should not just be a slogan without a clear moral direction.
Soroti Ketimpangan: Sekolah Rakyat vs Sekolah Garuda
FSGI highlights the emergence of new terms such as People's School and Garuda School which have the potential to perpetuate caste in education. According to FSGI, the government through the Ministry of Education seems to still be stuck on the "favorite school" paradigm.
"Educational justice is not merely about opening access, but ensuring equal quality. In fact, the inequality between cities and regions, as well as public and private schools, is still very real," wrote the FSGI official statement.
Budget Transparency and Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program
Regarding the constitutional mandate regarding the 20% education budget, FSGI demands total transparency. FSGI warns that this large allocation should not be trapped in administrative projects, but should touch the quality of teachers and learning facilities.
In addition, FSGI provides special notes on the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) strategic program:
Strict Supervision: Ensure the distribution and quality of food are targeted. Governance: Do not let the operational burden of this program burden the main task of teachers in the classroom. Transparency: Prevent the risk of new inequalities in implementation in the field.Bullying Emergency: Schools Must Be Safe Spaces
The issue of violence in schools or bullying is the main focus. FSGI calls the current condition an "emergency" phase that requires extraordinary handling, not just formal mediation.
"The completion of violence cases must be firm. We need a reliable reporting system and psychological support for victims. Don't sacrifice justice just to maintain the good name of the institution," said FSGI.
Digitalization and the Future of Teachers
In the era of digital transformation and the presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), FSGI reminds of three important points:
Infrastructure: There are still many schools that do not have adequate digital access. Teacher Training: The digital literacy of educators must be improved evenly. AI Ethics: The use of AI in education must remain based on ethics and pedagogy.FSGI also again voiced the fate of teachers who are often dubbed "heroes without medals" but still have weak professional protection and administrative burdens that erode the role of education.
Collective Momentum in Hardiknas 2026
Closing his reflection, FSGI invited all elements of the nation - the government, schools, parents, and youth - to make Hardiknas 2026 a turning point.
Education must be seen as a basic right, not a privilege. Ki Hajar Dewantara's spirit to humanize people can only be realized if the government dares to take policies based on justice and transparency.
