Guizhou Ready to Become AI Token Center, Data Race Gets Hotter
China is starting to seriously work on the "fuel" of artificial intelligence: AI tokens. The province of Guizhou is being pushed to become one of its centers, with the support of large data centers, electricity, and computing power.
According to a report by China Daily, Thursday, April 30, the average daily use of AI tokens in China has exceeded 140 trillion in March. This figure has jumped more than 1,000 times compared to the beginning of 2024 which is still around 100 billion, and is up more than 40 percent from the end of 2025.
Tokens are small units of data that AI systems process when reading text, images, or commands. The more tokens used, the greater the AI activity that runs.
The data was presented at a forum in Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou, on Monday. The local government sees the token as a new driver of technology-based economic growth.
"Guiyang and Gui'an New Area have a strong foundation in computing power and data resources," said Deputy Mayor of Guiyang, Fu Tao. According to Fu Tao, this condition opens up great opportunities to develop the token economy.
Currently, the region has 27 large-scale data centers with a total computing power of more than 165 exaflops. Intelligent computing accounts for more than 98 percent.
China Data Pay's chairman, Tang Hanlin, sees Guizhou as having a rare combination: stable electricity, big computing, AI models, and data. "We use high-quality industry datasets to train and tune tokens to better fit the needs of specific sectors," he said.
China's Data Pay's token platform records an average daily usage of more than 12 billion tokens, with users and orders reaching hundreds of thousands.
On the other hand, the use of tokens is not evenly distributed in sectors such as manufacturing, government services, and public services. President of Huawei Cloud Industry Development, Wang Xudong, said that its development space is still wide open.
"We will work with leading companies to promote the improvement of industrial intelligence in Guiyang and Gui'an," Wang said, quoted by China Daily.
China Data Pay is also starting to look at overseas markets. The company is exploring opportunities for global token services, while adapting to the rules and payment systems in various countries.
This development shows the direction of AI competition is becoming clearer. Not only about the smartest model, but who controls the data and the infrastructure behind it. Tokens are the gateway.
