War Not Over, Average Gasoline Prices in the US Highest Since July 2022
JAKARTA - The average price of gasoline in the United States on Friday reached its highest level since July 2022, according to data from the American automobile association AAA, quoted by Antara from RIA Novosti.
A gallon (3.8 liters) of Regular gasoline rose by more than 9 cents in a day and now reaches 4.392 US dollars (equivalent to Rp76,000 at a rate of 1 US dollar = Rp17,300).
According to the US Energy Information Agency's eia.gov website, Regular gasoline marketed in the Uncle Sam's country has the lowest octane value of 87 compared to the other two types, namely Midgrade (89-90) and Premium (91-94).
Since the start of the military operation against Iran, the price has increased by 1.41 US dollars.
New records were set in California, where the price per gallon reached $6.06 (Rp104,800). Four other states - Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and Hawaii - also exceeded the $5 threshold.
Only in 13 states is gasoline still under $4 a gallon, with Georgia now the cheapest state at $3.802 a gallon, replacing Oklahoma.
Previously on February 28, the United States and Israel launched an attack on targets in Iran that caused damage and civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, on April 7, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire.
However, further talks in Islamabad ended without results, while the US began imposing a blockade on Iranian ports while extending the ceasefire.
Escalation of the conflict around Iran has led to a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the main route for the shipment of oil and liquefied natural gas from Persian Gulf countries to global markets, thus pushing up energy prices.
