Indonesia Gets One Gold and Two Silver from the 2026 Asian Beach Games

JAKARTA - Indonesia brought home one gold medal and two silver medals from the 2026 Asian Beach Games (ABG) which took place in Sanya, China. All medals won by Indonesia were contributed by the sport of rock climbing.

The only gold medal was won by Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi/Kadek Adi Asih in the women's speed relay. The two performed amazingly after starting the qualification from fourth place, but managed to show significant improvement in the next stage.

In the semifinals, the two successfully eliminated the Chinese pair, Zhou Yafei/Deng Lijuan, with a time of 13.174 seconds, which broke the world record for the women's speed relay.

"We didn't expect to break the record. We just focused on performing at our best," Desak Made said after the race, as received in the statement.

After setting a record in the semifinals, Desak/Asih continued their impressive performance into the final round. The two performed flawlessly to defeat the South Korean pair, Jeong Jimin/Sung Hanaerum, with a time of 13.76 seconds.

"I dedicate this medal to Indonesia. This is my first Asian Beach Games and it's gold. Hopefully it will be a good start for the next target," said Desak.

In addition to gold from the women's sector, Indonesia also added a silver medal through the men's pair of Raharjati Nursamsa/Antasyafi Robby in the men's relay. The two have been consistent since qualifying with a best time of 10.14 seconds.

They then defeated the Kyrgyz representative in the 16th round, China in the quarterfinals, and Kazakhstan in the semifinals.

In the final match, Raharjati/Robby had to admit the superiority of the Chinese pair, Long Jianguo/Zhao Yicheng. The Indonesian pair recorded a time of 9.80 seconds or a thin 0.05 seconds from the opponent who recorded 9.75 seconds.

"This result is motivation to continue to achieve and win more medals in the future," said Raharjati.

The Indonesian cliff climbing team collected a total of one gold medal and two silver medals from the Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026. The cliff climbing performance also closed the Indonesian team's struggle in the multi-branch beach sports.

Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Contingent, Krisna Bayu, gave an appreciation for the success of the rock climbers who performed exceptionally well to make an important contribution to the Indonesian team.

"Thank you to the rock climbers who have fought to the maximum, to Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir who has provided support, Mrs. Yenny Wahid (Ketum of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation) who has prepared the team well, and the President of the Indonesian NOC Raja Sapta Oktohari," said Bayu.
