DPR Member Proposes All Railway Crossings to Be Patrolled by Certified Officers
Member of Commission V of the House of Representatives, Sudjatmiko, proposed that all railway crossings that are prone to be guarded by officers who have certification, as a short-term solution to minimize train accidents and vehicles crossing the train tracks.
According to Sudjatmiko, massive discipline of crossings and disturbances around the train tracks have the potential to get rejected by residents.
At the very least, the crossings of the plot must be applied to security standardization, especially since the discipline of Indonesian road users is still relatively low.
"The solution in the short term is full guard, yes, the vulnerable crossing by certified guards, indeed this must have a certificate," said Sudjatmiko as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, April 30.
He said that there were many illegal and still active crossing points in Indonesia.
Based on Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways, according to him, the crossing of a piece of land that is not licensed should be closed.
On the other hand, he said that the number of train users is increasing over time. With that, safety is the most important thing.
"There are also many crossings in foreign countries, but they are guarded and with a good system," he said.
He said that in the area around Jakarta there were still dozens of crossings that were not guarded.
Not to mention, the phenomenon is still in Jakarta. "What is clear is that this crossing is indeed mandatory to be maintained in accordance with the regulations and levels of the road," he said.
As for the medium and long-term solutions, Sudjatmiko asked the government to audit the safety of trains nationwide, along with improving the track.
Sometimes, said Sudjatmiko, the road at the crossing of a piece of railway, asphalt or concrete is also damaged so that vehicles are prone to stopping in the middle of the track.
He also asked that as many flyovers or underpasses as possible be built on railway lines, especially on lines with high train travel intensity.
Therefore, Sudjatmiko emphasized that there was no other way to eliminate train and vehicle accidents other than making the crossing not a piece.
"Especially Jabodetabek every five minutes there is a train, well it should have used flyovers and underpasses. Well, the closure of a piece of illegal crossing, well this is what must be emphasized," he said.
