SPPI Solidarity Action for Andrie Yunus, Demanding Prabowo to Evaluate the Minister of Defense

JAKARTA - Dozens of young people who are members of the Indonesian Youth Movement Center (SPPI) held a Solidarity Action for Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS in front of the Presidential Palace, Jalan Merdeka Timur, Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 30. The action was made to commemorate the 40 days of the case of terror of hard water spraying against civil society, Andrie Yunus.

The Coordinator of the Indonesian Youth Movement Center (SPPI), Agnes Emil, in his speech urged President Prabowo Subianto to evaluate Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin from the position of Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia. According to Agnes, that the act of terror involving individuals from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) is a serious problem for civil supremacy and democracy.

"This act of terror is clearly very threatening to the principle of civil supremacy in our democratic country. More dangerous, this terror could be a threat to the delegitimization of President Prabowo's government. Therefore, we urge President Prabowo to immediately evaluate Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin from the Minister of Defense," said Agnes Emil in his speech, Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Agnes also conveyed that since the act of terror against Andrie Yunus, to this day, there has been no official statement or apology from Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as the Minister of Defense. The reason is that the four perpetrators are individuals from the BAIS unit which has a close hierarchy under the Ministry of Defense in terms of strategic coordination.

"Our action today is also to urge Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to apologize publicly to the public for the act of terror of pouring water on Andrie Yunus. Because the BAIS unit is part of the country's defense, which today is suspected of being a tool to terrorize the civil society," he said.

Anang, another orator in the action, also voiced that this act of terror had made all parties angry, including President Prabowo, who called the attack a terrorist act and aimed to weaken the current Prabowo government.

"President Prabowo is also angry and asks that this case be investigated to the actors who designed this. Strangely, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin did not speak out at all about this act of terror. Even though BAIS is part of the state defense apparatus," said Anang.

Furthermore, Agnes Emil as the SPPI Coordinator also invited civil society and activists to voice this. He believes that the motive for this act of terror is not just "personal revenge". According to him, this terror can happen again and therefore is more dangerous for activists.

"We invite all friends to together voice this. This terror is not just an individual Andrie Yunus. This is a serious threat to civil supremacy. It could be, tomorrow we could be in Andrie Yunus too," concluded Agnes Emil.

The points of demand submitted by the Indonesian Youth Center or SPPI to President Prabowo Subianto, are as follows:

1. Urging President Prabowo Subianto to immediately evaluate the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin

2. Urging Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to apologize publicly to the public for the act of terror of pouring hard water on our friend Andrie Yunus.

3. Invite activist friends to together voice to save democracy and civil supremacy.

4. If not now. It could be tomorrow we are all in Andrie Yunus!
