After Three Years of Music, Belly Jazz Trio Introduces Original Debut Single Mimpi

JAKARTA - The jazz unit from Malang, Belly Jazz Trio, marked its journey in the Indonesian music scene by releasing an original debut single titled "Mimpi".

This work is the long-awaited fruit of the trio led by Ratna Wina (vocals), Decky Anugrah (keyboards), and Aditya Nugraha (contrabass), after having established musical chemistry for more than three years.

The creative process of the single "Mimpi" was actually designed last year. However, intensive work including writing lyrics, music arrangements, and new recording sessions was fully realized at this year's Ramadan.

Decky Anugrah, who also acts as a producer in this project, stated that this work is a manifestation of the collective commitment of the personnel to leave a sweet footprint in the national music scene.

"The plan to realize the first work of Belly Jazz Trio has been since 2025, and finally materialized in 2026. The process of making lyrics, music, and recording was done in Ramadan last month," said Decky in his statement, Thursday, April 30.

Musically, Belly Jazz Trio chose the ballad genre as the main breath of their first single. This selection is based on the similarity of musical references among the three personnel who often come into contact with the calm and contemplative nuances of jazz.

Meanwhile, the lyrics of the song itself raise the theme of melancholy about a relationship that fails to materialize. The song's narrative describes the dilemma of someone who does not have the courage to reveal his admiration, even though the person he loves is in front of his eyes. As a result, the feelings can only be kept tightly in the corner of the heart and manifest as a bed of flowers.

Ratna Wina also hopes that this single can be a friend for listeners in various casual situations. "Hopefully 'Mimpi' can be a friend when enjoying coffee in the afternoon, or a friend when reading a book before going to bed at night. And hopefully it can be a mirror for anyone who is admiring someone but can't say how they feel," said the vocalist.

As for the production, Belly Jazz Trio partnered with Paraduta Record for the recording session, while the mixing and mastering process was handled directly by Paraduta Hanung. To strengthen the visual aesthetics, the artwork aspect was entrusted to illustrator Wahyu Widodo.

The presence of the single "Mimpi" is projected as the opening gate to a series of other original works that are being prepared by this trio. They emphasized that they would not stop with just one single and plan to continue producing new songs in order to contribute to the development of jazz music in Indonesia.
