JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in a number of areas on Thursday due to a number of atmospheric dynamics, so that preparedness is needed to face it.

BMKG weather practitioner, Ina Indah H, in a statement quoted in Jakarta, Thursday, that the areas, namely Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Maluku.

"For western Indonesia, be aware that there is the potential for lightning in Banjarmasin and Tanjung Selor, then the potential for moderate rain in Padang, Semarang, and Yogyakarta," he said as quoted by Antara.

He said there was the potential for light rain in Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Pekanbaru, Jambi, Pangkalpinang, Palembang, Bengkulu, Lampung, Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Surabaya, Pontianak, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda, and the potential for thick clouds in Banda Aceh.

Meanwhile, for eastern Indonesia, it is necessary to be aware of the potential for lightning in Ambon, moderate rain in Denpasar, Mataram, Mamuju, and Nabire.

He said that light rain was possible in Makassar, Kendari, Palu, Gorontalo, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayawijaya, Jayapura, and Merauke, and heavy clouds in Kupang and Manado.
