PLN Completes Microsoft Data Center Electricity Infrastructure
JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has successfully completed a series of Microsoft Data Center electricity infrastructure projects in the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC), Deltamas City, Cikarang, and Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC), West Java.
PLN's Director of Project Management and Renewable Energy, Suroso Isnandar, said that PLN through the PLN Central Java Development Unit (UIP JBT) and PLN Project Management Center (Pusmanpro) had completed the construction and operation of the 150-kilovolt (kV) Data Center Bay Microsoft Line JKT 11 A & B Substation (GI) in the GIIC area, Cikarang.
"In other locations, the construction of the GI 150 kV KIIC II/Margakarya Line JKT 09 and JKT 02 which will supply the electricity needs of PT Microsoft Operation Indonesia in the KIIC area was also successfully completed," he said, Wednesday, April 29.
Suroso also emphasized that the completion of this project is part of PLN's strategic steps in strengthening Indonesia's role as a center of digital economic growth in the Southeast Asian region. This success, according to Suroso, is an important milestone in providing reliable electricity supply for international standard data centers.
"PLN considers the development of the data center ecosystem as one of the important pillars in the transformation of the national economy. Therefore, we are preparing an electricity infrastructure that is not only reliable, but also adaptive to the needs of the ever-growing digital industry," continued Suroso.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of the Central Java Development Parent Unit (UIP JBT), Kishartanto Purnomo Putro, said that national electricity fulfillment has become the responsibility of PLN for every sector, including the increasingly rapid digital industry.
"24-hour electricity reliability is not just a necessity, but the main foundation of world-class data center operations. PLN is ready to provide a stable, safe, and sustainable electricity supply to support uninterrupted digital activities," said Kishartanto.
He added that the trust shown by Microsoft as a global technology company is an indicator of Indonesia's capacity in the international arena, which also increases the wheels of investment in both local and national scales.
"PLN not only provides electricity, but also provides the foundation for the growth of investment and the national digital economy. This trust motivates us to continue to improve the quality of services and infrastructure readiness," added Krishartanto.
Microsoft's Energy Asia Pacific Regional Lead, Leo Wirawan, emphasized that the reliability and sustainability of electricity supply are key factors in supporting global data center operations. He assessed that collaboration with PLN not only ensures that energy needs are met, but also plays an important role in encouraging the development of the data center ecosystem in the country.
"We believe PLN is capable of providing reliable and sustainable electricity supply. This collaboration is expected to drive Indonesia's digital economic growth," said Leo.
