Not Just Weighing Babies, Khofifah Makes Posyandu a Center for Integrated Basic Services

SURABAYA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa made a big breakthrough in strengthening public services by emphasizing the transformation of Integrated Service Posts (Posyandu) based on six Minimum Service Standards (SPM).

This strategic step is taken as a real effort to bring basic services closer while improving the quality of life of the community.

In conjunction with the commemoration of National Posyandu Day, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Khofifah emphasized that the role of Posyandu has now shifted to the forefront of development from the lowest level.

Khofifah explained that through this six-SPM-based transformation, Posyandu is no longer only focused on maternal and child health services, but has developed into an integrated service center that touches various aspects of people's lives.

"Posyandu is the front line of community services. Through the transformation based on six SPMs, posyandu is now not only focused on health services, but has evolved into an integrated service center that touches various aspects of people's lives," said Khofifah as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

The six sectors integrated in the new function of Posyandu include health, education, social, public works, people's housing, to public safety and protection (trantibumlinmas).

With this holistic approach, the community is expected to no longer have to travel long distances to access basic bureaucratic and social services.

Khofifah assessed that Posyandu as a Village Community Institution (LKD) has a vital role as a container of aspirations as well as a government partner in participatory development supervision.

The strength of this transformation in East Java is supported by a very massive network, reaching 46,414 Posyandu units which are guarded by more than 300,000 health cadres.

Khofifah gave the highest appreciation to the cadres whom she called the spearhead of community service.

"The kader of the posyandu is the spearhead that works with full dedication. I express my highest appreciation for their extraordinary contribution in maintaining the health and well-being of the community," said the former Minister of Social Affairs.

Closing his statement, Khofifah added that the success of this revitalization requires strong cross-sectoral synergy, ranging from health workers, local governments, to the awareness of the community itself.

He believes that by strengthening community-based development through inclusive and community-based Posyandu, East Java will have a more robust human resource foundation towards the vision of Indonesia Emas.

"Posyandu exists as an inclusive service center, based on mutual cooperation, and strengthens development from below," he concluded.
