PSG After Defeating Bayern 5-4, Marquinhos and Kane Agree to Score More Goals

JAKARTA - Nine goals were created when Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayern Munich 5-4 in the first semi-final of the Champions League. PSG captain Marquinhos and Bayern striker Harry Kane predict that the second match, which will be held at Bayern's home, will not be much different because many goals will be created.

PSG and Bayern put on a slick and offensive performance that resulted in many goals. The match, which was held at PSG's home at the Parc des Princes Stadium, Paris, Wednesday, April 29, 2026 early morning WIB, both teams exchanged goals.

Although Bayern were ahead first through a penalty from Harry Kane, PSG was able to turn things around and even ahead 5-2 after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele scored a brace.

However, Bayern was able to narrow the gap when Dayot Upamecano and Luis Diaz scored against PSG within three minutes.

However, Vincent Kompany's troops ran out of time so they failed to equalize the score. PSG, who are the defending champions, finally won 5-4.

This became one of the most goals in the history of the Champions League. The nine-goal match was the same as the semi-final match in the 1960 Champions Cup when Eintracht Frankfurt beat Rangers 6-3.

Only, Frankfurt managed to advance to the final and then lost to Real Madrid who are indeed the European rulers. Ironically, Frankfurt which is also a German Bundesliga club like Bayern must admit Madrid's superiority with a score that is not less than 7-3. This is the largest score in the final match in the history of the Champions League.

The victory over Bayern in the first semi-final still does not guarantee PSG will qualify for the final for the second time in a row. Moreover, the French Ligue 1 team is only a narrow lead over their rivals.

Bayern needs a minimum victory of 2-0 to eliminate PSG in the second match held at home at the Allianz Arena Stadium, Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Luis Enrique's team only needs a draw to advance to the final against Atletico Madrid or Arsenal. However, Marquinhos predicts that the big match will be back in the drama of goals.

"I'm sure anyone who loves football really enjoys this game. A game that can really be enjoyed. A game like we dreamed of when we were little while playing football," said Marquinhos as quoted by france24.

"The next game will not be much different. A really crazy game between two teams who want to win and score goals. We will come with the same mentality and personality. And we will finish the game like we did there [Allianz Arena]," said the Brazil national team defender.

In the 2025 Champions League final held at the Allianz Arena, PSG successfully slaughtered Inter Milan 5-0. They also became the first Champions League champion and won the treble.

Meanwhile, Bayern striker Harry Kane stated that the team showed high fighting spirit and did not give up. When they were 5-2 behind, Bayern, who had just won the Bundesliga, was able to rise even though they were only able to add two goals.

"Overall, we really had the momentum to kill the opponent in the early minutes of the match. We are still proud because we were able to come back after being behind 5-2 and then 5-4. Moreover, we played away. We still fight and get up," said Kane who has bagged 45 goals this season.

According to him, Bayern actually played very well. He is also optimistic that Bayern will finish the second match with a victory because they have the support of the fans.

"In this match, both teams played at the highest level. Both teams played attacking with fast transitions and high intensity in one-on-one duels," said Kane, who agreed with Marquinhos that the second match would still be marked by many goals.

"The final result is determined by who gets momentum in the next week's match. The match will be the same. But we are playing at home and have the support of the fans. This motivates us to reach the limit," he said.
