Police Arrest Korean WNA in Connection with Sexual Violence Case on Gili Trawangan
LOMBOK - The North Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a foreign national (WNA) from South Korea with the initials WK (22) who was suspected of committing sexual violence against fellow WNA in the Gili Trawangan tourist area and was threatened with a 12-year prison sentence.
The perpetrator was arrested in Bali after being suspected of fleeing after the incident. The arrest was made on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at around 16.00 Wita in the Kuta Police area, Denpasar, after his whereabouts were tracked around I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Kasatreskrim of the North Lombok Police, Iptu I Komang Wilandra, confirmed the arrest. "Yes, we have arrested one foreign national from South Korea who is suspected of being the perpetrator of the crime of sexual violence against fellow foreign nationals in the Gili Trawangan area," said Wilandra, Tuesday, April 28.
The alleged rape incident occurred on Saturday (11/4/2026) at around 01.30 Wita at one of the inns in the Laguna Gili Beach Resort area, Gili Indah Village, Pemenang District, North Lombok Regency.
The victim, who is also a South Korean citizen, reported the incident on the same day after coordinating with his consulate. The police then conducted a crime scene investigation (TKP) and examined a number of witnesses.
From the results of the initial investigation, the police secured evidence in the form of bed sheets and pillowcases with blood stains, the victim's clothes, the suspect's sandals, and CCTV footage around the location.
"Based on sufficient evidence, our case has been upgraded to the investigation stage and the perpetrator has been named a suspect," said Komang.
The results of the investigation revealed that the suspect had left the location several hours after the incident and was suspected of trying to escape. However, his movements were successfully tracked until he was finally secured in Bali.
During the handling process, the police also coordinated with Immigration to carry out the ban, as well as communicating with the International Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters and the Consulate of South Korea in Bali.
Currently, the suspect has been taken to the North Lombok Police to undergo further legal proceedings.
For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 6 letter b of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes as well as Article 473 of the new Criminal Code, with a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
The North Lombok Police confirmed its commitment to handling this case professionally and ensuring maximum protection for the victim.
