Polri Reformasi Sudah Lewat Tenggat, Prabowo Harus Bertindak
JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) Sugeng Teguh Santoso considers that the agenda for reforming the National Police has exceeded the deadline that should be. He urged President Prabowo Subianto to immediately take decisive action by calling for a team to accelerate the reform of the National Police to present the results of the recommendations that have been prepared.
Sugeng said that the formation of the reform team was a direct mandate from the President with the aim of strengthening the institution of the National Police as well as increasing public confidence. However, until now the results of the team's work have not been made public, even though the time given is considered to have passed.
"It's past time. It should have been about two months ago that the reform team of the National Police submitted its recommendations to the President," said Sugeng when met in Bogor, Tuesday, April 28.
He emphasized that the reform of the National Police must be directed at two main goals, namely strengthening the position of the National Police as a civilian security institution that maintains democracy, and improving the quality of public services so that they are more professional and trusted by the community.
According to Sugeng, the problem in the body of the National Police is actually not new. He highlighted the aspect of law enforcement, especially in the field of Investigation, which still often triggers public disappointment. This is different from other sectors such as community development and traffic which are considered to have shown progress, especially with the implementation of electronic tickets.
"What is still in the spotlight is law enforcement. Practices such as alleged buying and selling of cases or partiality in handling cases are still found," he said.

IPW, continued Sugeng, encourages that the reform recommendations be focused on changing the culture within the National Police, especially in law enforcement practices. Cultural reform is considered to be the key to improving the integrity and professionalism of the apparatus, as well as restoring public confidence in the police institution.
Sugeng hopes that the President will act immediately so that the results of the reform team's work will not drag on and can be implemented immediately as part of a comprehensive improvement in the body of the National Police.
