Banyuwangi Retains the National Best High-Performing Regency for the Fourth Time from the Ministry of Home Affairs

Banyuwangi Regency has once again won national recognition by being designated as the first best-performing regency with the status of "High Performance" in the evaluation of local government administration by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri). This achievement strengthens Banyuwangi's position as an area with consistent, effective, and impactful government governance for the community.

The award was presented at the Commemoration Ceremony for the 2026th Regional Autonomy Day at the Ministry of Home Affairs Plaza, Jakarta, which was led by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto. This assessment is the result of the evaluation of the Regional Government Implementation Report (LPPD), which is a national instrument for measuring the accountability and performance of local governments comprehensively.

This year is the fourth time that Banyuwangi has won first place nationally in this category. Previously, Banyuwangi was also named the Most Innovative Regency in Indonesia in 2025 by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and has maintained consistency in regional innovation for eight consecutive years since 2018.

The evaluation is based on 606 indicators covering various aspects of development, ranging from poverty eradication, quality of education and health services, transparency in financial management, environmental preservation, to regional innovations that have an impact on the welfare of the community. Banyuwangi achieved the highest score of 3.8202 with a trend of development performance that continues to show improvement.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, emphasized that the achievement of regional performance is not only based on indicators, but must be translated into programs that the community feels are real.

"Behind the achievement of indicators, the most important thing is how the local government continues to present effective and efficient programs for the community," he said in a written statement, Tuesday, April 28.

The Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandani, expressed his appreciation for the award and at the same time emphasized the commitment to continue to make improvements.

"This award is motivation for us to continue to improve. We realize that there are still many things that need to be improved, and we will continue to encourage programs that have a direct impact on the community," said Ipuk.

Banyuwangi's performance is also reflected in macro indicators that show a positive trend. The Human Development Index (HDI) increased to 75.17 in 2025 from 74.3 in the previous year. The poverty rate decreased to 6.13 percent, which is the lowest figure in Banyuwangi's history. Per capita income also increased to Rp67.08 million in 2025 from Rp62.08 million in 2024.

In terms of basic services, Banyuwangi recorded optimal achievement, especially in the health sector, where services for infants, pregnant women, childbirth, and breastfeeding have reached 100 percent.

In addition, Banyuwangi also received the AA rating in the Government Agency Performance Accountability System (SAKIP), making it the only district in Indonesia that has managed to achieve the highest level of accountability.

In the future, Banyuwangi will continue to align regional development programs with national agendas and provincial government policies, including in strengthening human resources, increasing regional fiscal capacity, and strengthening the economic independence of the community.
