At the UN Security Council, Saudi Arabia Emphasizes Monitoring the Security of the Strait of Hormuz

JAKARTA - The Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdulaziz Alwasil, stressed the importance of closely monitoring developments in the Gulf region, especially in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a crucial route for the world economy.

Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the safety and protection of waterways in maritime areas, Alwasil stated that any threat to freedom of navigation has a direct impact on the stability of the energy market, global supply chains, and international economic security.

Alwasil emphasized that the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz was a shared responsibility that required compliance with international law, strengthening international cooperation to maintain freedom of navigation, and full compliance with Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

He also reiterated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's support for international and regional efforts aimed at de-escalation and ending the war, including the mediation initiative led by Pakistan and which is still ongoing.

Alwasil also urged the Security Council to explicitly condemn the Iranian attacks that the Kingdom has faced since the beginning of the crisis.
