Fast Motion, TikTok Disabled 1.7 Million Child Accounts on its Platform

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital said it had received a report on the deactivation of accounts for children under 16 years old on the TikTok platform, as a step of PSE's compliance with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 (PP TUNAS).

Minister of Communication and Information Meutya Hafid said that in its latest report, from March 28 to April 28, 2026, TikTok had disabled more than 1.7 million accounts of children under 16 years of age.

Meutya emphasized that this step is an indicator that compliance with digital platforms is not enough to be a statement of commitment, but must be accompanied by measurable concrete actions.

"TikTok was the first to report the number of deactivations and the first to show that the commitment was accompanied by real steps that were transparently presented to the public through the Ministry of Communication and Information," Meutya said in a press conference on Tuesday, April 28.

However, Meutya admitted that in the process of enforcement there was a system error which caused the adult user account to be affected and disabled. For this reason, he asked for understanding from all users.

In addition to the crackdown on children's accounts, the government is also encouraging increased supervision of other harmful content, including digital crime practices such as online gambling that are still rampant on various platforms.

"Maybe yesterday there was a little disturbance that I think you can understand, if there are a few disturbances, TikTok has said that if there are adult accounts that are accidentally disabled, then immediately report it for normalization and it will be done quickly," he added.

Lead of UGC, TikTok Indonesia, Richard Anggoro also stated that the accounts that were accidentally affected last week, have been active again. However, he ensured that affected users could apply for account recovery through the help center, with the process claimed to be carried out as quickly as possible.

"For normalization, it can be conveyed to our help center, for the process itself it will be done as soon as possible. And related to what happened yesterday on the weekend, the accounts have been resolved and are up to active," he said.
