PWNU Forum Urges PBNU to Hold the Congress by August 2026 at the Latest

JAKARTA - The insistence that the General Manager of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) immediately hold a muktamar continues to strengthen. This time, the Forum of the Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Manager (PWNU) throughout Indonesia urges the muktamar to be held as soon as possible by early August 2026.

The chairmen of the PWNU throughout Indonesia conveyed the demand by directly visiting the PBNU office at Jalan Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

The Chairman of the Central Java PWNU, Abdul Ghaffar Rozin or Gus Rozin, conveyed that the presence of the PWNU chairmen was part of the consolidation of regional leadership in responding to the internal dynamics of the organization.

Gus Rozin said that there was deep concern after the reform agreement there was no meaningful progress to break the deadlock in communication at the PBNU elite. This forum has discussed several times and has not found any other solution except through the implementation of the congress as soon as possible.

The aspirations were conveyed and accepted by Rais Aam PBNU, Miftachul Akhyar online. The aspirations were received directly by the General Chair of PBNU, KH Yahya Cholil Staquf in his office.

The forum assessed that the delay in the implementation of the Congress has the potential to disrupt the consolidation of the organization and hinder NU's focus on carrying out strategic roles at the national and communal levels.

According to Gus Rozin, there are approximately three points of the statement of position that the PWNU Chairman Forum throughout Indonesia conveyed to PBNU. First, PBNU is asked to hold the Congress at the end of July or early August 2026 in accordance with the decision of the PBNU Plenary Meeting on January 29, 2026.

"If by August 2026 the Muktamar is not carried out, PWNU together with PCNU will declare a motion of no confidence in PBNU," said Gus Rozin when contacted in Jakarta.

Second, he continued, PBNU was asked to consistently follow up on the decisions of the Daily Syuriyah and Tanfidziyah Meetings on March 18, 2026. This includes the formation of the Munas/Konbes and Muktamar committees, as well as the acceleration of the issuance and completion of the decision letter (SK).

Third, the Steering Committee is asked to determine the participants in the Congress, including PWNU, PCNU, and PCINU, no later than one month before the implementation.

This attitude is supported by 23 PWNU Chairmen from various provinces, ranging from Aceh to Papua Mountains. This support is a strong signal that the regional structure wants certainty about the direction of the organization's leadership.

The PWNU Chair Forum emphasized that accelerating the Congress was a crucial step to maintain the legitimacy of leadership and the organization's solidity. The protracted uncertainty is considered to have the potential to reduce structural trust at the regional and branch levels.

"This is not just an organizational agenda, but concerns the future of the jama'iyah and the strategic role of NU for the nation," said the statement that emerged in the forum.

"This forum is purely an initiative of the heads of the PWNU, not specifically coordinated. In fact, their arrival in Jakarta is also at their own expense, even though some are from Aceh and Papua Mountains", he concluded.
