Damaged by the Flood, the Krueng Tingkeum Aceh Bridge is Targeted to be Functional in July 2026

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) targets that the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Kutablang District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, can be gradually restored to its original function by the end of July 2026 after it was damaged by a disaster at the end of November 2025.

The bridge was previously damaged on November 26, 2025 due to a hydrometeorological disaster that disrupted the structure and traffic flow on the national east-west route in Sumatra.

The infrastructure is a strategic access that connects Aceh with North Sumatra and supports community mobility and logistics distribution.

As an emergency handling step, the PU Ministry built a temporary bridge (bailey) which began to function on December 27, 2025 to maintain connectivity in the area.

Currently, the construction of a permanent bridge is being carried out through the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge Duplication Permanent Handling package by the Aceh National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN).

Until now, the progress of work has reached 40.11 percent, surpassing the plan of 38.24 percent.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo ensured that handling the bridge was the government's priority in maintaining the smooth flow of transportation.

"This bridge has an important role in supporting national connectivity, especially in the eastern cross of Sumatra. Therefore, the acceleration of permanent handling continues to be carried out so that it can immediately function optimally," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Tuesday, April 28.

The new bridge has a length of 149.7 meters and is built using a steel girder structure with an incremental launching construction method to increase capacity and resistance to disaster risk.

During the construction process, monitoring and maintenance of the temporary bridge will continue, including daily checks, periodic repairs, and traffic arrangements in coordination with the police and related agencies.

In addition, mitigation steps such as watering the road body are also carried out to reduce dust during the construction period.

In the near future, the project will enter the erection girder stage on the first span as part of the acceleration of completion.

The Ministry of PU targets that the permanent bridge can be gradually functional by the end of July 2026, in order to increase traffic capacity, reduce vehicle density, and facilitate the flow of goods and people in Aceh.
