KRL and KAJJ accidents, Commission V of the DPR asks the government to complete the emergency crossing of a railway yard

JAKARTA - Commission V of the DPR expressed deep condolences for the loss of life and injuries due to the Argo Bromo Anggrek and KRL train accidents at the Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi, West Java. As a result of the incident, 14 people were reported dead and more than 80 people were injured.

Chairman of Commission V of the DPR, Lasarus, urged the government to immediately complete thousands of emergency crossings in railway lines in Indonesia. Because according to him, the crossing is often the cause of train accidents.

"We ask the government to immediately resolve the emergency crossing of a piece of land in Indonesia," Lasarus told reporters, Tuesday, April 28.

Lasarus said, Commission V of the DPR has been reminding the government through the Indonesian Railway (KAI) and the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) for years to solve the emergency crossing of a piece in Indonesia. However, he said, until now there are thousands of crossing pieces that have not been handled properly.

"The DPR Commission V has been asking KAI for years to complete a piece of crossing line, but until now the emergency crossing of a piece has not been handled well. Let's check the data, there are thousands of piece crossings in Indonesia that have not been handled," he said.

The PDIP legislator emphasized that if the emergency crossing of the plot was not immediately resolved properly, then it was not impossible that train accidents would continue to occur in Indonesia. Lasarus reminded that the railway line should be free and sterile from all obstacles.

"That's why in the whole world the railway line is clear and clean, except in Indonesia. Therefore, if the emergency crossing of a piece is not handled well, then there are thousands of possibilities that accidents will happen again," said Lasarus.

Furthermore, Lasarus asked that all evacuation officers who are working in the field can ensure proper handling of victims. "As the head of Commission V of the DPR, I express my deep condolences for the accident. May the families of the victims be given strength and fortitude," said Lasarus.

"And to the officers in the field to ensure and prioritize the handling of victims so that they can be handled well and optimally," he concluded.

Based on KAI data, the number of crossings per piece in 2024, recorded as many as 3,896 crossings per piece, consisting of 2,803 registered crossings and 1,093 unregistered crossings. Of these, 1,832 crossings have been guarded, while 971 crossings have not been guarded.
