White House Plans Meeting to Discuss President's Security
WASHINGTON - White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is scheduled to hold a meeting on presidential security this week, a senior White House official said Monday.
The official said it was held following a shooting at a meeting attended by US President Donald Trump and many government officials.
The official said President Trump and the White House support the leadership of the US Secret Service after the shooting outside the hotel meeting room where the White House Correspondents Association dinner was held.
Wiles is expected to meet early this week with leaders of the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security to discuss "protocols and practices" for major events involving President Trump, the senior official told Reuters.
The meeting will review Saturday's security response and also look at "all possibilities" to keep upcoming events safe, the official added.
As previously reported, sudden gunfire was heard at the Hilton Washington Hotel, when President Trump and his cabinet members attended the White House correspondent's annual dinner.
President Trump, Vice President JD Vance and First Lady Melania Trump were immediately evacuated from the room as soon as the sound of gunfire was heard.
A suspect, later identified as Cole Allen, was later secured. A member of the US Secret Service was injured in the incident.
Despite the incident, President Trump said the dinner would be rescheduled in 30 days.
Regarding this, FBI Director Kash Patel said he would completely overhaul the US President's security arrangements in the next reception with reporters.
"I think the security posture is going to be completely different," Patel told Fox News.
"There were almost all members of the presidential cabinet at the banquet. There was the president and the vice president, as well as 2,000 media people. This is not a written event for a movie, a scenario like this, a tragedy like this, and fortunately, there was a quick reaction from law enforcement," Patel said about last Saturday's incident.
Patel said the FBI would be implementing several different things and would be working with the White House, Department of Homeland Security, US Secret Service and local police.
