Pertamina Drilling Uses Walking Rig Technology to Accelerate the Drilling of BNG-079 Wells in South Sumatra

JAKARTA - Pertamina again recorded the success of drilling the BNG-079 well in the Benuang Structure, Adera Field, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency (PALI), South Sumatra, into the spotlight.

The well was drilled using the PDSI #41.3/N110UE Rig owned by PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (Pertamina Drilling) and managed to reach a depth of 2,559 meters measured depth (mMD) in just 38 days. This achievement is considered relatively fast, as well as producing significant initial production.

This success is inseparable from the implementation of the walking rig or cyber rig system technology which allows the rig to be moved without major demolition. This technology makes the mobilization process more efficient and cuts non-productive time.

The President Director of Pertamina Drilling, Avep Disasmita, said that this achievement reflects the readiness of technology and human resources in facing increasingly complex oil and gas operations challenges.

"The success of drilling well BNG-079 is a reflection of the readiness of technology, rig capabilities, and the competence of Pertamina Drilling human resources. We continue to innovate so that operations run faster, more efficient, and continue to prioritize work safety," said Avep in an official statement, Monday, April 27.

According to him, the use of walking rig technology is one of the main factors that drive the acceleration of drilling performance.

"This technology allows for a faster and safer rig move, so that it can significantly reduce rig move time and directly impact the overall acceleration of the drilling program," he explained.

Behind this technical success, there is a role for workers who carry out operations with high competence and discipline. Synergy is also forged with the community in the PALI and Prabumulih regions, as well as other stakeholders, so that operational activities can run in a conducive manner.

The aspect of occupational safety is also a major concern. Drilling of BNG-079 well recorded 52,320 safe man hours, which shows that the implementation of the HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) principle is running well.

"With the support of technology, human resources, and collaboration of various parties, Pertamina Drilling has once again demonstrated its role in supporting the success of national oil and gas operations and increasing energy production," said Avep.
