Palestinian Prisoner Released by Israel is Thin and Has Scars

JAKARTA - A number of Palestinian prisoners released by Israel on Sunday appeared to be emaciated and had scars, according to sources and eyewitnesses.

Israel released 15 Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip on Sunday. The release comes as Israel continues to hold thousands of Palestinians from Gaza over the past two years, with human rights groups and documented testimonies confirming that the prisoners are held in facilities that do not meet minimum humanitarian standards and are subjected to torture, starvation, and medical neglect.

The Prisoners' Media Office, a non-governmental body, said in a brief statement that the 15 prisoners were transferred through the Kerem Shalom crossing and were on their way to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in the center, accompanied by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The statement did not provide details about the medical conditions of the Palestinian prisoners who were released.

However, eyewitnesses told Anadolu that the released prisoners appeared very thin and exhausted, with some showing signs of injuries, as quoted by Daily Sabah (27/4).

According to official Palestinian figures, more than 9,600 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli jails, including 90 women and 350 children.

The US-backed ceasefire in Gaza, which has been in place since October 10, 2025, halted Israel's war with the Hamas-led Gaza militant group that broke out on October 7, 2023.

Meanwhile, a medical source in Gaza on Sunday said the number of Palestinian deaths due to the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip had risen to 72,587, while the number of injured reached 172,381, quoted from WAFA.

The source also said that the total number of deaths since the start of the ceasefire had reached 811 people, while the number of injured had increased to 2,278 people. In addition, 761 bodies have been found from under the rubble.
