SIG's Subsidiary Launches Mortar Innovation, Erick Thohir: A State-Owned Enterprise With Future Vision

JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) through its subsidiary PT Mitra Kiara Indonesia, has added to its achievements to become a provider of building material solutions in the region. The company launched the product "Mortar Indonesia", which is claimed to be an innovation to answer the challenges in the field of building materials and provide solutions to stakeholders.

Supported by a large network of GIS distributors, currently, Mortar Indonesia is available in several areas such as DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Then it will be available in Medan, Lampung and Makassar areas.

President Director of PT Mitra Kiara Indonesia, Mirza Whibowo Soenarto said that mortar is a future product that demands continuous development, because both technology and needs are still developing. This is reflected in the development of Stock Keeping Units (SKUs)/products that continue to appear in the market.

"Mortar Indonesia provides great added value and places GIS in a strong position in the mortar business in Indonesia which will then increase product diversification, strategy, innovation and support the big vision of GIS," said Mirza Whibowo Soenarto.

Meanwhile, Director of Marketing & Supply Chain GIS, Adi Munandir said, the launch of Mortar Indonesia is a strategic development of GIS Transformation that prioritizes innovation in production processes, product portfolios and business processes.

One of the main objectives, according to Adi, is the transformation of construction technology. Conventional construction methods will be replaced by modern construction methods. And Mortar Indonesia is one of them as a product that answers these challenges to meet the needs of construction that is faster, lighter and more efficient.

"In Indonesia, 5 percent of the conventional on-site mix mortar method has been replaced with a modern method of pre-mix mortar, which is concentrated in Java around 73 percent. This opens up a great opportunity to transform national construction as a form of commitment to GIS innovation," explained Adi Munandir .

The launch of Mortar Indonesia also received appreciation from the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir. In his speech, Erick believed that the mortar product from SIG, would be the pride of Indonesia.

"This is not just a product launch, but is a form of GIS innovation and transformation to become a world-class and future-minded SOE," he said.

To ensure product availability, quality and quality assurance, PT Mitra Kiara Indonesia has the third largest factory in Indonesia with a production capacity of 375 thousand tons of mortar per year. The factory, which was built on an area of two hectares, is the first factory in Indonesia with an integrated business concept between mortar raw materials, where the MKI Factory is located in the same area as the GIS Factory.
