MATARAM - The North Lombok Police, West Nusa Tenggara, are handling a case of alleged sexual violence with the same alleged perpetrator and victim who are both South Korean citizens.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the North Lombok Police, I Komang Wilandra said the incident occurred in the Gili Trawangan tourist area.

"From the results of the trial, we have increased the status of the suspected perpetrator to a suspect," Wilandra said when contacted from Mataram, Antara, Sunday, April 26.

He explained that the suspect with the initials L did not have a relative relationship with the victim. The two are known to have only met each other while on vacation on Gili Trawangan.

"There is no relationship between relatives. The perpetrator and the victim first met at the location," he said.

According to Wilandra, the alleged sexual violence occurred after the two attended a night entertainment activity.

"The suspect is suspected of following the victim to the room, then the incident occurred," he said.

Currently, investigators have detained the suspect at the North Lombok Police detention house for further investigation.

In handling the case, investigators applied Article 6 letter b of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence and/or Article 473 paragraph (1) and paragraph (3) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023.

Wilandra added that the police had also coordinated with the South Korean Embassy regarding the handling of the case.
