Record! Teachers In Sumenep Who Have Not Been Vaccinated Are Prohibited From Teaching

JAKARTA - The Education Office (Disdik) of Sumenep Regency, East Java has banned teachers from various schools in the area who have not been vaccinated from teaching face-to-face. The face-to-face learning has been held since May 31, 2021.

According to the Acting Head of the Education Office of the Sumenep Regency Government, Moh Iksan, this step is to anticipate the possibility of students and education activists being exposed to COVID-19.

"So, one of the efforts we make is that teachers must be vaccinated first. For those who haven't, we are not allowed to teach," he said in Sumenep, as reported by Antara, Monday, June 7.

He explained that long before the central government established face-to-face teaching and learning activities, the government had facilitated COVID-19 vaccination for all state civil servants (ASN) and teachers.

If there are teachers who have not been vaccinated, he said, it means that they are not willing to follow the government's recommendations, namely preventing the spread of COVID-19.

"Except for teachers who do have a congenital disease, so they can't be given a vaccine shot. That's another case," he said.

Therefore, Disdik Sumenep has conveyed directions to each school principal to collect data and report on teachers who have not been vaccinated for further inspection by the Disdik.

"If the problem is due to comorbidities, we can still tolerate it and the person concerned will be given a quick test. However, if there is no reason, then it is not permissible to teach at all, and we will report the person concerned to the Sumenep Regency COVID-19 Task Force Team," he said.

He explained that the prohibition for teachers who had not been vaccinated to teach was because his party did not want a COVID-19 cluster in educational institutions.

He also asked each school regarding the implementation of health protocols in schools to be really strict, such as providing a place to wash hands with running water and using soap, always keeping a distance, and wearing masks.
