Not Only Jakarta, Several Indonesian Regions Are Expected to Experience Heavy Rain Today

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts heavy to very heavy rain that has the potential to flood a number of regions in Indonesia, Sunday, April 26.

BMKG Praktirawan, Selly Brilian said that heavy to very heavy rain is potentially occurring in West Java, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Maluku.

"The readiness for potential heavy to very heavy rain in West Java, East Nusa Tenggara and Maluku must be improved," he said in a weather forecast broadcast monitored in Jakarta, Sunday, quoted by Antara.

Selly appealed to the public to be aware of rain with lightning that has the potential to occur in Palembang, Bandar Lampung and Banjarmasin.

Meanwhile, moderate intensity rain is predicted to occur in the Bandung, Mamuju and Nabire regions in the eastern part of Indonesia.

"For the eastern part of Indonesia, it is anticipated that there is a potential for moderate rain in Mamuju and Nabire," he said.

In addition, he said, a number of other cities also have the potential to experience rain with similar intensity. These cities include Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjungpinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, most of Java Island, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, and Palangka Raya.

Meanwhile, light rain is predicted to hit a number of areas in the eastern part of Indonesia, including Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, most of Sulawesi Island, Ambon, Sorong, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke.

Selly said the BMKG also predicted that heavy cloudy weather could potentially occur in Pangkalpinang and Pontianak. Meanwhile, cloudy conditions are expected to occur in Ternate and Manokwari. In addition, the potential for hazy air is observed in Banda Aceh.
