Bandung-based band Taring shocks hardcore music fans in Tokyo and Nagoya
JAKARTA - Four members of the Taring band from Bandung, West Java, successfully shook Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan in the "Taring Nippon Onslaught 2026" tour.
In a row, Taring, under the banner of Kiba o Muku - Hardcore Assault, performed on April 17-18, 2026 at the Gekiko Festival, Wildside Tokyo; April 19, 2026 at Studio 246 (The Resistance Lives On Vol.1) Nagoya; and on April 22, 2026 at Pit Bar, Tokyo.
More or less 11 featured song compositions, most of which are taken from the material from their latest album, Megatruh, Taring presents its best performance with high energy.
Through direct interaction with the Japanese underground scene and foreign residents who are residents in Japan, Taring successfully dismantled the dividing line with the audience. Without a moment's pause, the audience was immersed in the attractions of moshing, headbang, wall of death and slam dancing.
Two main drivers of the Taring band, namely Hardi Rosady (vocals) and Ujang Rahmat (drums) who are familiarly called Gebeg, admitted to being amazed by the Japanese audience's enthusiasm. Supported by Wildan Wiliansyah (guitar), Ferry Ferdiansyah (bass), and Taring Manager Uya Waluya, Taring's appearance in the tour series in Tokyo and Nagoya was very maximal.
"I see the Japanese audience's enthusiasm is fierce. Most of our song lyrics are in Indonesian, this is proof that music is a universal language. Everyone can enjoy it without having to understand the lyrics," said Hardi Rosady, quoted from a written statement (24/4).
"This is a series of new album tours. We worked with Tomoki Nakagawa from the Japanese grindcore band, Kandarivas, and Richie for the show in Nagoya. This is the second time we have appeared in Japan. On this tour, we bring the song "Maximum Acceleration" from Seringai to every place. This is a tribute to the late Ricky Siahaan, the guitarist of Seringai," he said.
For the Pit Bar, the opening band Taring is Skeleton Bones and Blood Prophecy. These two Japanese bands are also hardcore and quite famous among Japanese hardcore kids. Through this tour, Taring, according to Gebeg the drummer, tries to perform as intensely as possible, establish connections, and push the limits of experience in the performance space.
"The strength of friendship between fellow musicians from abroad is very strong. When we tour abroad in 2019, in addition to touring Japan, we also go to several European countries, the friendship link increases. I am very grateful that we now know many European and Japanese friends," explained Gebeg.
"The strength of friendship between countries is very strong and we try to be independent. We perform while selling merchandise so it's quite a lot to add to survive," he said.
Hardi believes that in the future there will be more Indonesian bands performing abroad.
"However, what needs to be prepared is the mental preparation to face different languages, then the weather and others. Like in Japan, we ride the train while getting tools together," said Hardi.
Not only Japanese audiences and foreign residents, but also a number of Indonesian audiences who attended to watch the appearance of Taring at the Pit Bar, Tokyo.
"Cool and steady! Proud to be an Indonesian to see Taring perform in Tokyo and bring the name of Indonesia to the international stage. Their appearance is not just a gig, but really show the strong character and energy in front of foreign audiences. I am touched to see Indonesian music can be accepted and enjoyed even in Japan. Hopefully this will be a continuation of Taring to become more well-known, and continue to consistently bring their music colors to a bigger level. Respect and salute!" said Pepi, an Indonesian citizen who has lived and worked in Japan for more than 15 years.
For your information, Taring previously performed in Japan in 2019 in a rock music event titled "Everloud Festival".
This event was initiated by Stevie Item, guitarist of Death Squad and Tomoki Nakagawa from the band Kandarivas. Taring unjuk performed with two Indonesian bands, Insanity and Seringai as the final band.
