Wamenekraf Says FSAI 2026 Opens Opportunities for Collaboration

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar said that the Australian Indonesian Film Festival (FSAI) 2026 opened opportunities for collaboration for film industry players from both countries.

"FSAI is a space that brings together industry players to get to know each other and open up opportunities for collaboration," he said, quoted by Antara.

At the launch event of the FSAI 2026 series of events in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4), he conveyed that the festival could bridge Indonesian and Australian creative industry players to increase cooperation.

"Collaboration opens wider access, not only in the domestic market but also globally. This is in line with efforts to make the creative economy the new engine of growth," he said.

The Ministry of Creative Economy hopes that FSAI 2026 can be a space for strengthening collaboration between Indonesian and Australian film industry players, which can include the exchange of knowledge, capacity building for talent, and expansion of the distribution network for creative works.

Irene also conveyed that the film industry is not limited to film production and screening, but includes businesses such as licensing and development of derivative products.

"This shows the magnitude of the economic potential that can be generated," he said.

The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Roderick Bruce Brazier said that the FSAI, which has entered its 11th year, reflects the consistency of cooperation between the two countries in the creative sector.

"FSAI has evolved into a collaborative platform that brings together Australian and Indonesian filmmakers and reaches audiences in various cities," he said.

FSAI 2026 was held on May 8-23 in 11 cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Manado, Semarang, Medan, Bogor, Makassar, Surabaya, Kupang, Banjarmasin, Mataram, and Yogyakarta.

The festival includes film screenings, master classes, and capacity development programs for industry players and the creative community.

There are five Australian films and two Indonesian films that will be screened at the festival. The Indonesian films that will be screened at the festival are "Rangga & Cinta" and "JUMBO."
