Three Madrasahs in West Papua Renovated, Spending Rp9.56 Billion

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is speeding up the completion of the renovation of three madrasahs in West Papua and West Papua as part of the government's efforts to improve the quality of educational infrastructure in the eastern part of Indonesia.

The work on the rehabilitation and renovation of the madrasah was carried out by the Strategic Infrastructure Directorate General of the Ministry of PU which cost an estimated Rp9.56 billion.

Based on data from the Ministry of PU as of April 23, 2026, the physical progress of the renovation of the three madrasahs has reached 89.79 percent and is expected to be completed soon to support teaching and learning activities.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the development of educational infrastructure is one of the government's efforts to expand access to equitable education services, including in remote areas and eastern Indonesia.

"According to President Prabowo's Astacita, education is one of the main pillars. Increasing access to quality education for all children of the nation is our priority. For this reason, we will continue to strive to renovate and rehabilitate educational facilities and infrastructure in various regions," said Dody, quoted from an official statement, Saturday, April 25.

In addition, the renovation work of the three educational infrastructure is also part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 7 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of the Development and Revitalization of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education and Secondary Education as well as the Digitalization of Learning.

Through the renovation, educational facilities were improved to create a safer, more comfortable and decent learning environment for students and teachers.

Dody emphasized that the existence of adequate educational facilities is expected to support the improvement of learning quality as well as strengthen the equitable access to education in the West Papua and South West Papua regions.

"We are committed to supporting human resource development through the provision of quality education infrastructure, especially in areas that still need improvement in basic services," he added.
