RI Survival Mode, Efficiency is Warned
JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa explained the meaning of the survival mode or 'survival mode' which is currently being run by the Indonesian government amid global pressure.
According to him, 'survival mode' means that the government must optimize all available resources and opportunities to maintain economic growth, without room for ineffective policies.
"It means that we can't play around anymore. It means that if we don't have space, or don't have the luxury to play around with all the opportunities we can create," said Purbaya as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, April 25.
"Fiscal policy and economic programs must be carried out seriously and measured so as not to pose a risk to the national economy," he said.
Within this framework, Purbaya ensures that he will maximize all instruments under the authority of the Ministry of Finance to ensure that the program runs effectively and is well monitored.
As is known, President Prabowo Subianto has previously issued Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 4 of 2026 concerning the Government Program Acceleration Task Force to Support Economic Growth.
Through the policy, the government formed a task force (satgas) tasked with overseeing the acceleration of the program, including overcoming obstacles (debottlenecking) in the implementation of policies.
"It's all supervised later in one task force, where among other things it will also include debottlenecking like that. It's survival mode," said Purbaya.
He also emphasized the importance of closing the inefficiency gap in the economy, including state revenue leakage. Optimization will be carried out in the customs and taxation sector.
"We must no longer allow space-inefficiency to occur in our economy, especially if it is intentional," he explained.
Although he acknowledged that the performance of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) had made progress, the Minister of Finance assessed that there was still room for improvement, especially in closing the potential for state revenue leakage.
"Even though it has progressed, customs and taxes. But we still see leaks, even leaks here and there that can still be closed. So that's what's called survival mode," he said.
