Purbaya Reveals the Reasons for the Removal of 2 Directors General, Alluding to Internal Conflicts that Create Misinformation

JAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the removal of two directors general recently was part of the policy of employee rotation that is commonly carried out at the Ministry of Finance.

The two directors general in question are Febrio Nathan Kacaribu, who previously served as the Director General of Economic and Fiscal Strategy (DJSEF), and Luky Alfirman as the Director General of the Budget.

"It's just a normal process, how many years it's been played. So, there's nothing special about it," said Purbaya as reported by ANTARA, Friday, April 24.

When confirmed regarding the alleged internal conflict, Purbaya did not deny that the dynamics within the organization was one of the factors that influenced his decision, even though his share was relatively small.

"Yes and no. Yes, there is a little (influence of internal conflict), but it's not just that. There are others," he said.

Regarding internal conflicts, he explained that recently there have been some rumors related to the Ministry of Finance that lead to misinformation, for example, about state funds that only last for a few weeks to the Budget Balance Plus (SAL) only remaining Rp. 120 trillion.

In addition, he also heard issues that cast doubt on his ability to meet investors.

Purbaya said that currently he is improving the body of the Ministry of Finance organization to avoid negative risks to the government's credibility in the eyes of the public and market players.

"If (the problem) is a difference of opinion, it's okay. Differences of opinion are allowed in the Ministry of Finance. Only when there is such misinformation, it will also destroy the government's legacy," he added.

As for the vacant seats left by the two previous officials, Purbaya has appointed acting directors (Plh), namely the Director of Welfare and Economic Equity Strategy Ferry Ardianto as Plh DJSEF and State Expenditure Expert Sudarto as Plh Director General of the Budget.

Previously, Purbaya explained that he would select candidates for the strategic position of echelon I and report it to President Prabowo Subianto.

He targeted that he would start reporting the names of the selected candidates later in May 2026.
