Commission IV of the DPR urges the Ministry of Agriculture to work with the police to take action against the Premium Rice Mafia Abal-abal
Member of Commission IV of the DPR, Hindun Anisah, urged the Ministry of Agriculture to work with the National Police in uncovering the case of abal-abal premium rice. According to him, the practice of manipulating the quality of rice is a serious form of fraud that harms the wider community.
"There must be concrete and decisive steps. The Ministry of Agriculture needs to work with law enforcement to crack down on these rice mafia to the roots," Hindun told reporters, Friday, April 24.
It is known that in the findings of the Ministry of Agriculture, a number of premium-labeled rice sold turned out to have low quality, with a broken rate far above the standard of premium rice. This condition causes rice prices to soar unnaturally, because people buy products that do not match the quality promised.
Hindun emphasized that this practice was not just a normal practice, but had entered the category of organized crime.
"The public has been lied to. They paid dearly for rice that was not of the right quality. This is very detrimental and cannot be tolerated," he said.
The PKB legislator from the Central Java II District also urged the Ministry of Agriculture to act more decisively against the perpetrators who are referred to as rice mafia.
"This practice has the potential to damage food price stability while lowering public confidence in the distribution of basic goods," he said.
He added that supervision of the distribution and quality of rice must be tightened so that similar cases do not recur in the future.
"Protection of consumers must be the top priority in national food policies," concluded Hindun.
