Jakarta Schedule Energy Saving Action, Lights Are Turned Off at the Same Time
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will hold simultaneous power outages three times throughout 2026 in the context of energy conservation and climate change control campaigns.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Service, Dudi Gardesi Sadikin, said the blackout was scheduled for April 25 (Earth Day), June 13 (World Environment Day), and September 26 (World Ozone Day), each from 20.30-21.30 WIB.
"This activity aims to encourage energy savings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase public awareness and participation," said Dudi, Friday, April 24.
This action is part of the implementation of Governor's Instruction Number 14 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Lamp Power Off and is carried out in a participatory manner by building managers, facilities, and lighting in accordance with their authority.
The blackout includes the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's office building, except for health service facilities such as hospitals, health centers, and clinics. In addition, lights will also be turned off on a number of protocol and arterial roads in five administrative city areas.
In Central Jakarta, the locations include MH Thamrin Street, Sudirman Street (Dukuh Atas to Sampoerna Strategic Building), Medan Merdeka area, to the City Hall. Meanwhile, in other areas include Yos Sudarso Street (North Jakarta), Dr. Sumarno Street (East Jakarta), Daan Mogot Street (West Jakarta), and Prapanca Street and Rasuna Said (South Jakarta).
A number of city icons will also be turned off, such as the National Monument, Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, Arjuna Wiwaha Statue, to General Sudirman Statue.
The DKI Provincial Government also invites the participation of private buildings, shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, and apartments to participate in this action as a form of contribution to reducing carbon emissions.
