Trump insists US will not use nuclear weapons in war with Iran

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he would not use nuclear weapons in a war against Iran.

"Why would I use nuclear weapons? We have completely, in a very conventional way, destroyed them without it," President Trump said at the White House when asked if he would use such weapons, Al Arabiya reported from Reuters (24/4).

"No, I would not use it. Nuclear weapons should never be allowed to be used by anyone," he added.

Asked how long he was willing to wait for a long-term peace deal with Iran, President Trump said, "Don't rush."

The Republican politician said Iran may have added to its arsenal "a little" during the two-week ceasefire, but added the US military could destroy it in about a day.

"Their navy has been destroyed. Their air force has been destroyed, their anti-aircraft defenses have been destroyed. Maybe they add a little bit of weaponry during the two-week pause, but we will destroy it in about a day, if they do," he explained.

"I want to make the best deal. I can make a deal right now, but I don't want to do that. I want this deal to last forever," said President Trump.
