Iran Hangs MEK Terrorist Group Member for Collaborating with Israel
JAKARTA - Iran hanged a man on Thursday, April 23 after being convicted of membership in a banned terrorist group that collaborated with Israel.
"Sultan-Ali Shirzadi-Fakhr was hanged this morning for his membership in the terrorist group" People's Mujahedin Organization (MEK) and "collaboration with the intelligence services of the Israeli regime," reported Iran's judicial Mizan Online website, quoted by AFP.
According to Mizan, the man was also found guilty of the serious crime of taking part in an operation hostile to the Islamic Republic.
It is unclear when he was arrested. However, Mizan explained that the man had lived in Spain for some time.
The execution is the latest in recent weeks during the war with Israel and the United States, where Iranian authorities have carried out several executions of people linked to the MEK and instigators of the pre-war protests.
The MEK or Mojahedin-e-Khalq organization was formed on September 6, 1965 in Iran. The group seeks to overthrow the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and promote a mixed view of Islam-Marxism.
