Must Bring! High SPF Sunscreen is the Key to Protect the Skin of Hajj Pilgrims in the Holy Land
JAKARTA - The hot and dry weather conditions in the Holy Land make it necessary for pilgrims to prepare optimal skin protection.
One of the important needs that should not be ignored is the use of sunscreen with high SPF content to protect the skin from intense sunlight exposure while outdoors.
Aesthetic doctor, dr. Dewita Kamaruddin, recommends choosing a sunscreen with a high SPF level, even up to SPF 80, so that skin protection is more optimal.
"Just use SPF high. SPF 80 is there. It's okay for a day, it can be for a day."
SPF or Sun Protection Factor itself shows the ability of a product to protect the skin from UVB rays, which are the main cause of skin burns to increase the risk of skin cancer. With a high SPF, protection can last longer when in direct sunlight.
He explained that the use of sunscreen with a high SPF is generally applied once for outdoor activities, with a durability of up to several hours without having to be repeated often. However, the time of use still needs to be considered so that the results are optimal.
"The use is a minimum of SPF 50, and the amount must be appropriate. Don't be too little, but enough is 2 fingers. And wear it 20 minutes before going out," he said.
Sunscreen application should be done about 20 minutes before going outdoors so that the product can be absorbed well into the skin. Re-use can be done according to conditions, for example after excessive sweating or after the face is exposed to water.
In addition to protection from the outside, maintaining skin moisture is also important so that the skin remains healthy in the midst of extreme weather. The use of moisturizers and treatments to strengthen the skin barrier can help the skin be more resistant to exposure to heat.
As an additional preparation, skin care before departure can also be considered. The goal is to improve the condition and nutrition of the skin so that it is more ready to face changes in weather that are quite drastic compared to in Indonesia.
"When we go abroad, the weather is still changing dramatically compared to Indonesia, so the face can look dull. So it's important to take care of it before leaving," he concluded.
