RI Condemns the Installation of Israeli Military Banners at the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza
JAKARTA - Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli military's actions in putting up propaganda banners on the ruins of the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, Palestine.
"Indonesia strongly condemns and protests the installation of the 'Rising Lion' banner by Israeli forces on the ruins of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement via the X platform, Wednesday, April 22, reported by ANTARA.
Indonesia considers the use of symbols and military propaganda on the ruins of a hospital, especially in connection with a specific military operation, as a very provocative and unjustifiable act.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza is a civilian facility dedicated to providing health services for the Palestinian people.
The hospital should not be used for military propaganda.
"This action is an insult to humanitarian facilities that were built from the solidarity of the Indonesian people to help the Palestinian people," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Indonesia emphasizes that hospitals and all medical facilities must be respected and protected in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Indonesia also urges Israel to stop actions that violate the principle of protection of civilian infrastructure and ensure accountability for attacks on health facilities in the Gaza Strip.
RS Indonesia was previously affected by the Israeli military's attacks since October 2023 until the ceasefire in October 2025.
The hospital's director, dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, was reported to have died as a result of an Israeli attack on his residence in western Gaza in July 2025.
According to media reports, Israeli forces at the site put up a banner reading "Rising Lion" on the roof of the building.
"Rising Lion" was also used as the name of the Israeli military operation against Iran in June 2025.
