Rice Stock in North Sumatra Reaches 61,000 Tons, Enough for the Next 4 Months

JAKARTA - Perum Bulog North Sumatra Regional Office (Sumut) stated that the rice stock in the warehouse of 61,000 tons is sufficient to meet the needs for four months.

"The rice stock is enough for the next four months to maintain food security in the region," said Regional Head of Perum Bulog North Sumatra Budi Cahyanto as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 22.

Budi said that the stock was used, among others, for food assistance, distribution of rice for the Food Supply and Price Stabilization Program (SPHP), and government rice reserves.

He said that out of a total stock of 61,000 tons, about 6,000 tons had been used for the food assistance program.

"Before the stock decline, we also coordinate with other centers and regions to increase rice supplies for the needs of the people of North Sumatra," he said.

Budi said this week, there was an addition of 250 tons of rice stock in the warehouse.

In addition, his party also carried out the absorption of dry milled rice (GKP) at the local farmer level.

He said that the absorption of rice from farmers in his area reached 20,142 tons or the equivalent of 10,206 tons of rice in the period from January to April 19, 2026.

According to him, the potential for the absorption of rice in the future is in South Tapanuli Regency and Mandailing Natal Regency because they are still in the harvest season.

The purchase price of harvested dry paddy rice is set at Rp6,500 per kilogram at the farmer level in the condition that it has been packaged in sacks and is ready to be transported to the nearest mill.

Bulog North Sumatra targets the absorption of 62,718 tons of GKP rice in 2026 to maintain the stability of rice prices in the region.
