KUPANG - Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara erupted with a column of ash height of approximately 1,500 meters at the top of the volcano.
"The eruption occurred at 18.31 local time with a height of approximately 3,084 meters above sea level," said Mount Lewotobi Monitoring Post Officer Laki-Laki Emanuel Rofinus Bere in a report from Wulanggitang District, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 22.
He said the observed ash column was gray with a thick intensity leaning towards the southwest. This eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and with a duration of approximately three minutes 27 seconds.
He said that the current condition was monitored without significant volcanic earthquake increases.
"Visually, the eruptive material is still ash. Therefore, we appeal to the areas affected by the ash, always use masks and eye protection when doing activities outside the house," he said.
Currently, the volcanic activity of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki is at Level II or Alert status regarding the issuance of a number of recommendations for residents in the surrounding area.
People around Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki and visitors or tourists do not carry out any activities within a radius of four kilometers from the center of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki.
"The public should be calm and follow the guidance of the local government and not believe in issues that are unclear about their sources," he said.
His party also appealed to the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki to be aware of the potential for flash floods in rivers with upstream water flows on the mountain peak, if there is heavy rain.
