Rodri is Confirmed to be Absent against Burnley due to Groin Injury
JAKARTA - Pep Guardiola said Rodri is expected to miss Manchester City's away game at Burnley.
Even so, he allayed fears that the midfielder's groin injury could rule him out for a long time during the title race.
The Citizens have the opportunity to be at the top of the English League standings if they win at Turf Moor on Thursday, April 23, 2026 WIB, after approaching Arsenal with a three-point gap thanks to their victory over Mikel Arteta's team last weekend.
Rodri was replaced late in the game at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, April 19, 2026, and is undergoing tests for his groin problem.
He is expected to miss the game against Burnley, but Guardiola is optimistic the 29-year-old can return soon.
"I think he won't be ready for tomorrow and we'll see for the next game. Maybe, he comes back when (the FA Cup semi-final) against Southampton (on Saturday, April 25, 2026) or maybe in 12 days (against Everton, May 5, 2026)," said Guardiola.
Meanwhile, Manchester City maintained their position in the title race with a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the weekend.
Guardiola warned his players not to waste the result by not making mistakes against Burnley who are threatened with relegation.
"We immediately spoke in the locker room after the game (against Arsenal), don't lose focus. Arsenal are top of the table and should be champions right now."
"The recovery is much shorter than the last few weeks. Just a few days, so that's why you have to see how people recover emotionally and physically."
"We have to go to Burnley's home and perform at the level we have to do. We have to adjust some things after the Arsenal game and win the game," he said.
