Trump: Iran's Economy Is on the Brink
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump claims that Iran is on the brink of economic collapse due to the war that began between the US and Israel since February 28.
In his post on the Truth Social social media, Trump initially accused Iran of destroying the US for 47 years. Iran is known to have been subjected to economic sanctions by the US for more than four decades since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
"For 47 years, they have killed our people, and many others, and taken advantage of every president, except me - and what did I give them, a country in shambles!" Trump said on Wednesday, April 22.
Trump then boasted that he had destroyed the Iranian military during the war that began between the US and Israel amid nuclear negotiations with Iran mediated by Oman.
"Their entire navy is at the bottom of the sea, their air force has disappeared, their anti-aircraft systems and radar have been destroyed, their nuclear laboratories and storage areas were DESTROYED one dark night in June by our great B-2 bombers, their leaders HAVE DIED ... The Strait of Hormuz is BLOCKED and completely controlled by the US, with no ships allowed to go to Iranian ports," Trump said.
The claim of victory of the US, which was again touted, according to Trump, has made the economic situation in Iran chaotic.
"It's said that they're losing 500 million dollars a day because of this - their country is an economic disaster, which depends on a thread," Trump said.
Ocehan on the Truth Social social media after Trump's threat to carry out a follow-up attack on Iran if Tehran did not agree with the US when the deadline for the ceasefire ended.
However, days before the deadline for the ceasefire ended around Wednesday night, April 22 local time, Iran insisted on not negotiating again with the US in Islamabad.
Iran argues that its country is not afraid of US threats, especially when Trump insists on blocking ships entering and leaving Iranian ports even though the Strait of Hormuz has been opened by Iran as the Lebanese ceasefire took place.
After a number of Iranian officials continued to hint at not being present in Islamabad, Trump announced a new extension of the ceasefire with Iran.
