Bintang Akbar Jadi Pembawa Bendera di Asian Beach Games 2026
JAKARTA - Beach volleyball athlete Bintang Akbar was appointed as the flag bearer for the Indonesian team in the opening ceremony of the 2026 Asian Beach Games (ABG) which took place in Sanya, China.
Bintang, who won gold medals at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia and Thailand last year, will lead the Indonesian contingent's defile in the opening ceremony at the Asian Beach Games Park on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Indonesian Chef de Mission (CdM), Krisna Bayu, emphasized that the selection of the Stars was based on a combination of achievement and strong personal qualities.
"Bintang Akbar is a symbol of the spirit of never giving up and the pride of the nation. We believe that he can represent Indonesia with full honor on the international stage," said Bayu in a statement received.
In addition to the gold medals in the two SEA Games, Bintang also recorded Indonesia winning the title at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures 2024, champion at the Sanvinest Khanh Hoa Cup 2025 (Vietnam), runner-up at the Beach Pro Tour Futures Qingdao 2025 (China), and third place at the AVC Beach Tour Raja Ampat Open 2026.
Bintang welcomed the trust with gratitude and pride. The athlete born in Mojokerto called this moment an experience that he will always remember throughout his career.
"I am very proud and honored to be the flag bearer for Indonesia at this Asian Beach Games. This is a moment that I will never forget," he said.
Bintang also emphasized his determination to maintain the tradition of the achievements of the Indonesian beach volleyball branch at the Asian level.
"My goal at the Asian Beach Games is to maintain the tradition of gold. Please pray and support from all Indonesian people so that we can give our best," he said.
At the 2026 Sanya Asian Beach Games, Indonesia was strengthened by 22 athletes who will compete in three sports, namely beach volleyball, 3X3 basketball, and rock climbing.
