Germany will deploy 3 ships for the Strait of Hormuz mission

Germany will deploy three ships to participate in an international mission to secure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a member of the German National Security Council said, quoted by Der Spiegel magazine.

The plan to deploy the ship was discussed at the meeting of the council chaired by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. A number of important political and economic issues were also discussed, including the situation in the Middle East, the magazine reported, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik/RIA Novosti, Wednesday, April 22.

The report said Germany's National Security Council is expected to deploy two mine-sweeping vessels and one supply ship to participate in the mission.

The deployment of the ship also needs an international mandate, preferably from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), as a major prerequisite for Germany's participation in the mission.

In addition, Germany has proposed deploying small reconnaissance aircraft, which are currently stationed in Djibouti as part of Operation Aspides.

Previously, it was reported that US President Donald Trump in early April seriously considered withdrawing the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) because the alliance members refused to support the US and Israel in fighting against Iran.

Trumppun also said he no longer considered Europe a reliable defense partner for refusing his request to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
