Two Suspects in Illegal Chinese Cell Phone Case Revealed, This is Their Role

JAKARTA - The National Police's Illegal Trafficking Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum) revealed the role of two suspects with initials DCP alias P and SJ in the illegal import of mobile phones and other products from China.

"The two suspects who played a role as parties responsible for the process of bringing illegal imported goods from China and distributing them in the customs area of the Republic of Indonesia," said Director of Special Economic Crime (Dirtipideksus) of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Brigadier General Ade Safri Simanjuntak, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 22.

He detailed that the suspect DCP alias P played the role of an importer who brought goods into Indonesia in a state that was not new and was not equipped with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

DCP is suspected of violating articles on commercial crimes and/or industrial crimes and/or crimes on standardization and conformity assessment and/or crimes in the field of telecommunications and/or crimes in the field of consumer protection and money laundering (TPPU).

Meanwhile, the suspect SJ played the role of a customer who imported and distributed goods to Indonesia in an unnew state.

SJ is suspected of violating the alleged criminal act of trade and/or criminal acts in the field of telecommunications and/or criminal acts in the field of consumer protection and/or criminal acts of money laundering (TPPU).

Meanwhile, on Tuesday (21/4), the task force searched the office of PT TSL which was located in Sidoarjo, East Java, as an expansion of the search for a warehouse containing thousands of illegal cellphones in Jakarta earlier.

Ade revealed that PT TSL is a holding company that uses several shell companies to handle the import documents of illegal cellphones.

For the next step, the task force will investigate and trace other parties suspected of being involved in this illegal import.

"As directed by the National Police Chief, the task force is committed to developing and tracking all parties responsible for the practice of illegal imports that resulted in leakage of state financial receipts or harmed state wealth," he said.

Previously, in the disclosure of the case in Jakarta, the National Police's Gakkum Smuggling Task Force searched six locations in the form of warehouses, shops, and offices that were used as storage places for illegal imported goods.

From the search, investigators seized 56,557 units of iPhone-type mobile phones worth around IDR 225.2 billion, 1,625 units of Android mobile phones worth IDR 5.38 billion, and 18,574 mobile phone accessories with a total value of IDR 235.08 billion.

In addition, investigators also found other products in the form of baby clothes and children's toys that do not meet the mandatory SNI, but have been traded in the country, including through electronic trading platforms.
