Hezbollah Attacks Israel with Drones and Missiles for Violating the Ceasefire
JAKARTA - The militant group Hezbollah admitted carrying out an attack on Israel due to a violation of the ceasefire.
Hezbollah said its fighters launched rockets and drones towards Israel on Tuesday night in response to what it called violations of the ceasefire.
"In order to defend Lebanon and its people, and in response to Israel's blatant violations of the ceasefire," including "attacks on civilians and the destruction of their homes and villages," its fighters launched rockets and attack drones on a military site in northern Israel, which it called a source of artillery fire on a city in southern Lebanon, Al Arabiya reported (22/4).
As previously reported, the Israeli military on Tuesday said Hezbollah "launched several rockets" at soldiers stationed in southern Lebanon.
In response, the Israeli military said it attacked a Hezbollah rocket launcher, adding sirens sounded in two communities in northern Israel after a drone launched from Lebanon was intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory.
A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah, mediated by Washington, came into effect last Thursday, but Israeli forces remain stationed in a 5-10 km deep Lebanese land belt along the border.
Israel says it aims to create a buffer zone to protect northern Israel from Hezbollah attacks.
Meanwhile, the United States is scheduled to host a ministerial-level meeting between Israel and Lebanon on Thursday this week.
Lebanon was dragged into the war on March 2 when Hezbollah fired to support Tehran in the regional conflict.
