Gibran did not stop to Yahukimo even though it was delayed due to security

JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka admitted that he was not afraid to visit Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains, even though the same opportunity had previously been delayed for security reasons.

When having a dialogue with the families of TNI soldiers at the Koramil 1715/06 Dekai, Yahukimo, Tuesday, Vice President Gibran explained that from his series of visits to Papua, which included Nabire, Mimika, Sorong and heading to Raja Ampat, he felt that his visit to Yahukimo was the most challenging.

"What is clear from this three-day visit to Nabire, Mimika, later to Sorong, the most challenging Yahukimo. But it's okay, I don't feel discouraged, I don't feel... because (I was able to) fail here," said Gibran as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 21.

Yahukimo Regency is an area prone to security disturbances due to the presence of the Armed Criminal Group (KB).

Vice President Gibran was previously scheduled to visit Yahukimo for the first time in January 2026, but was postponed for security reasons.

At that time, Vice President Gibran was supposed to arrive in Yahukimo after completing his working visit to Wamena.

However, based on intelligence considerations, there is movement from irresponsible groups so that Gibran also postponed his visit to Yahukimo.

Gibran is committed to visiting Yahukimo again so that President Prabowo Subianto's priority programs, such as Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), Free Health Check (CKG) to food centers can be optimized.

In a dialogue with the Army Wives Association (Persit) in Yahukimo, Gibran wants the priority program to be utilized by local residents.

"I just want to include all the priority programs from the President and later on the people will enjoy it. I also put it aside because many Persit mothers, their children are still small. Some have received MBG? Later it must be encouraged so that they can get it all, because MBG should be prioritized in remote areas," said Gibran.

Gibran also appreciated the TNI soldiers who had secured the situation so that the working visit in Yahukimo in three locations went smoothly.

During the three hours in Yahukimo, Gibran reviewed the implementation of MBG at the Yahukimo Christian School, health facilities at the Dekai Hospital, and held a dialogue with TNI families at Koramil 1715/06 Dekai which became the Headquarters of the 5th Marine Infantry Battalion and Taipur/Timsus 303 for security in the Yahukimo area.

During his visit to Yahukimo, Gibran was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk, Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development in Papua Velix Wanggai and Deputy Governor of Papua Mountains Ones Pahabol.
