Love Triangle Ends in Tragedy, Nightclub Worker Dies After Storm with Her Lover
JAKARTA - The Kemayoran Police Criminal Investigation Unit revealed the alleged motive behind the fire that killed a man with the initials M (30) in his boarding house room on the 4th floor, Jalan Sumur Batu Raya area, RT 04/02, Kemayoran District, Central Jakarta.
The Kemayoran Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Budi Setiadi, said that the tragic incident was allegedly triggered by a love conflict involving a love triangle.
The victim is known to work at a nightclub in the Kelapa Gading area. He has a siri wife and plans to marry her officially at the KUA. On the other hand, the victim is also in a relationship with a woman with the initials L (20), a student.
On the day of the incident, L went to the victim's boarding house to ask for clarity about their relationship. At that time, the victim was working and had just returned to the boarding house in a drunken state.
"According to L's statement, the victim came home drunk, then asked for instant noodles. Her boyfriend then cooked using a portable stove, and they ate together," said Iptu Budi, Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
After cooking, the portable stove was allegedly not turned off completely so that the gas continued to come out. This condition was not noticed by the victim or L.
After eating, L again asked for certainty about their relationship. The victim then stated that he wanted to end the relationship because he planned to marry his mistress officially. This triggered a quarrel between the two.
"There was a fight because the victim was also drunk. After that, L left the location and went home using an online motorcycle to Juanda Station," he explained.
On the way, L only realized that the portable stove had not been turned off. However, at that time he was already at the station and did not return to the location.
It is suspected that the gas that continued to come out of the stove triggered an explosion which then caused a fire in the victim's dormitory room. The fire quickly grew and trapped the victim in the room until he eventually died.
"The fire is suspected to have originated from a portable stove or camping stove. Currently, we are still waiting for the results of the crime scene investigation from Puslabfor and the results of the autopsy of the victim," said Iptu Budi.
The police are also still investigating the possibility of negligence in the incident. So far, four witnesses have been examined, including L.
This case is still being handled by the Kemayoran Police.
